Song Lyrics

LIFE 101

Ain’t it just typical? Just when everyday seems to greet you with a smile and life is perfect, suddenly your life’s foundations falter and you find yourself in deepest despair. Well hey, get used to it! It’s just the way it is, it’s Life 101.

You play it cool you play it safe
Trippin’ and fallin’ anyway
It’s just the way it seems to be
The way it goes for you and me

It only takes a moment, from good to bad
From something wonderful to something sad
It ain’t nothing new under the sun
It’s just life 101

It’s sometimes up and sometimes down
You never walk on solid ground
And sure as amen in church
One sunny day you will get hurt

It only takes a moment, from good to bad
From something wonderful to something sad
It ain’t nothing new under the sun
It’s just life 101

It only takes a moment, from good to bad
From something wonderful to something sad
It ain’t nothing new under the sun
It’s just life 101

I AIN’T THE ONE

This one is dedicated to Troy Davis, an American citizen who was executed in Georgia 2011. He was convicted of a murder of a police officer but the evidence was weak and throughout his time in prison he maintained his innocence. And in hindsight a lot of things actually points at his innocence, or at least the lack of strong evidence. As I recall it I was already working on the lyrics when I read about Troy Davis, and with that suddenly the lyrics somehow got a deeper, and more important meaning.

I guess I’m nothing but a scoundrel
Just a lowlife and a fool
And I admit I’ve had my disputes with the law
I’m a man who’d make no mother proud
A hustler with a mouth to loud
I learnt to steal before I learnt to walk

No, I’m really not a saint
I’ve got a history of dirt
And I’ve lived a life so shameless and wild
But I’m telling you I’m not your guy
I haven’t even hurt a fly
Your Honour, I’m innocent like a child

Oh-oh-oh, I’m a thief and I’m a liar
But I didn’t do the things you say I’ve done
Oh-oh-oh, you may send me to the fire
But I swear before God I ain’t the one
I ain’t the one

I’m a god forsaken womanizer
Prowlin’ all around
And for that I may deserve to be damned
I’m a wrongful make-out artist, yes
But to this crime I can’t confess
I never held that pistol in my hand

Oh-oh-oh, I’m a thief and I’m a liar
But I didn’t do the things you say I’ve done
Oh-oh-oh, you may send me to the fire
But I swear before God I ain’t the one
I ain’t the one, I ain’t the one, no- no- no

Oh-oh-oh, I’m a thief and I’m a liar
But I didn’t do the things you say I’ve done
Oh-oh-oh, you may send me to the fire
But I swear before God I ain’t the one
(I ain’t the one) I ain’t the one
(I ain’t the one) I ain’t the one, no- no- no

HEAD FULL OF NOTHING

To have a strong drive and big ambitions but having trouble with finding purpose and focus.

I’ve got a head full of nothing special
I’ve got a dream but it’s somewhere afar
I’ve got an urge to go huntin’ for treasures
I just don’t know what them treasures are

I’ve got a heart filled up with passion
I want the world and I want it quick
I wanna make it in a big fashion
Just don’t wanna deal with all that comes with it

Oh-oh-oh-oooooh-oooooh…
I’m aimin’ high, I’m aimin’ low
Oh-oh-oh-oooooh-oooooh…
I mean I don’t really know
Where to go, no no

I’ve got a soul achin’ for adventure
I’ve got a fever deep in my bones
I wanna stand in the epicenter
I just don’t wanna leave my ol’ comfort zone

Oh-oh-oh-oooooh-oooooh…
I’m aimin’ high, I’m aimin’ low
Oh-oh-oh-oooooh-oooooh…
I mean I don’t really know
Where to go, no no

I’ve got a head full of nothing special
I’ve got a dream but it’s somewhere afar
I’ve got an urge to go huntin’ for treasures
I just don’t know what them treasures are

THE RIDDLE QUEEN

About an enigmatic and secretive woman, hard to fathom but very enticing.

Oh, my love please talk to me
And tell me who you are
Show me all that is hidden inside
Now open up your heart

You are to me a mystery I can’t unveil
An intangible dream, a holy grail
You are to me the symmetry of things unseen
So hard to figure out you seem
The Riddle Queen

Since you came into my life
And caught me in your spell
I’ve tried so hard to read your mind
But you hide it all so well

You are to me a mystery I can’t unveil
An intangible dream, a holy grail
You are to me the symmetry of things unseen
So far away and so serene
The Riddle Queen

(Harmonica)

You are to me a mystery I can’t unveil
An intangible dream, a holy grail
You are to me the symmetry of things unseen
So lose and light and yet so keen
The Riddle Queen

Woh – oooooohhhh
Oooooohhhh

ONLY YOUR HEART

Peppy folk/americana song with a classical ”follow-your-heart” theme.

You say nothing ever happens
Nothing comes along in this old weary town
You say it’s weighing you down
You’ve been walking like a zombie day-in and day-out
In fear of what’s called life
Feeling disappointed, lost and paralyzed
Knowing it ain’t right

So fly, fly away and leave behind your cage
You’ve been waiting so long to try your wings
Your ride may be rough, but you’ll learn to stand tough
And in time you might even find your thing

You say you can’t stand the thought
Of your potential being wasted away
By just playing it safe
It’s like being locked up
While you yourself is holding on to the key
But if you wake up your mind, you’ll be free
Wo-oh you’ll see

So fly, fly away and leave behind your cage
You’ve been waiting so long to try your wings
Your ride may be rough, but you’ll learn to stand tough
And in time you might even find your thing

Woh-oh-oh-woh
Only your heart knows where to go
Woh-oh-oh-woh
Only your heart knows where to go

(Whistling)

So fly, fly away and leave behind your cage
You’ve been waiting so long to try your wings
Your ride may be rough, but you’ll learn to stand tough
And in time you might even find your thing

Woh-oh-oh-woh
Only your heart knows where to go
Woh-oh-oh-woh
Only your heart knows where to go

Woh-oh-oh-woh
Only your heart knows where to go
I said woh-oh-oh-woh

HAVE MERCY

A homage to the music from the 60’, about love so intense it becomes a burden.

Hey girl, you’re blowing out my mind
Stealing all my time
Oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord
Have mercy
Well I don’t know, so tell me please
Are you for real or just make believe?
Oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord
Have mercy on me

She came out of nowhere
Like a sudden hurricane
Never giving me time to run for cover
Couldn’t wait to get her alone
Tell me how could I’ve ever known
She turned out to be a kamikaze lover

Hey girl, you’re blowing out my mind
Stealing all my time
Oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord
Have mercy
You’re so hot-blooded and hard to please
You know, you brought me to my knees
Oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord
Have mercy on me

(Bridge)

Yeah, she really trapped me good
I guess I should have understood
Her eyes were just leading me into trouble
Lovesick ain’t the word for her kind
To say she’s mad is more accurate I find
And all I can do is to fight or to crumble

Hey girl, you’re blowing out my mind
Stealing all my time
Oh Lord, Oh Lord, Oh Lord
Have mercy
Well I dont know, so tell me please
Are you for real or just make believe
Girl, you knock me off my feet
Oh Lord, Oh Lord, Oh Lord
Have mercy on me

VAGABOND AVENUE

About a man who chooses to leave his past behind, to search for something new. Not knowing exactly what he’s searching for, he knows he must try to find it, so he starts wandering into the unknown on Vagabond Avenue.

Mind all made up
Ready to take off
Standing by the door
So excited by now

Stepping outside
Without a clue on what
To be looking for,
But he’d find it somehow

Wandered away in the night
Expectations of everything and nothing too
Yes he went off in the pale moonlight
To look for the places where dreams become true
On Vagabond Avenue

Mile after mile
Following no plan
Short of time it seems
Never staying for long

Drifting around
From one place to the next
And where people teemed
He’d be playing his songs

Finally making his way into something
Quite different from the life he knew
Yes, he was off from the old and the gray
To look for the places where dreams become true
On Vagabond Avenue

On and on, and never stay for long
On and on, and just keep playing his songs
On and on, and never make any bounds, oh no
Just keep moving around

(Guitar)

Free like a wind on the plain
With his mind set on everything he had to do
Always defying the cold and the rain
To look for the places where dreams become true
The places where dreams become true
On Vagabond Avenue

Oh – ooh

WHATEVER LOVERS DO

Just another love song, can we ever get enough of them?

I’m right here by your side, love
And when you watch you sleep
Hear you breathe, I come to think of
How fate’s been good to me
Yes, how lucky one can be
It’s like a dream come true
Baby, me and you

When the day breaks
I will greet it with you
And we’ll make it our day
And do whatever lovers do

Outside our window
There’s a wakening world
Soon bestirred in pallid sunglow
And we can share it all
All the big things and the small
It’s there for you and me
And I’m where I wanna be

When the day breaks
I will greet it with you
And we’ll make it our day
And do whatever lovers do

Yes, when the day breaks
I will greet it with you
And we’ll make it our day
And do whatever lovers do

RHYMES OF A RANGER

I have for a long time had a romantic fantasy about being a lonesome wanderer in the mountains, like for instance in the Rocky Mountains. About being very small in a big, mighty environment filled with magnificent beauty and at the same time surrounding dangers. The peace to be one with the nature and also the loneliness to be far away from the near and dear. As it was, I happened to stumble upon a melody that I felt captured that melancholic feeling. So, the music came first, but I knew very soon the outline of the lyrics. Took quite a long time to finish them though, I remember.

Hello my old friend
It’s good to see you again
So much time has past
But then you never change

I have come to walk your trails
Known just to few men
And climb your howling hills
Through sunshine and rain

I can see the river wind
Down in the valley
I can see for miles and miles
Across the plains

I can see your tors and your trees
The beauty of its pallet
Feel your ancient soul
A wilderness untamed

Now your shoulders burn in gold
But soon the fall is here
I’m far away from the one I love
But in my heart she’s near

There are whispers in the wind
The wind that blows so cold
As if telling me the tales
From days of old

Oh, how I wish I had
Someone to talk to
Someone to share this glory along with me
Someone who saw what I saw
As we walk through
These almighty heights
That always will be

It ain’t right for a man
To meet the day alone
Far to long I’ve been far away
At last I’m coming home
Oh how good it feels to know
She’s waiting for me there
How I long for her embrace
Her tender care

(Instrumental)

Singing songs I’ve learned
Along my journey
Thinking about my love
And folks I know
Trying to keep good mood
Footsore and dirty
Seeking out a spot to rest
My aching bones

In the stillness by a fire
I lay down for a while
Far above, I can see the stars
Twinkle on the sky

And tomorrow I’ll move on
I’ll do the final miles
To see my love again
Yes, to hold her once again
Lord, its been quite a while
